Is there a depreciation schedule for used portable generators?

I am looking to buy a portable generator and quite a few have popped up for sale after this Ike Hurricane. What should i expect as a depreciated price based on hours run?

1. Very few portable generators have hour meters so how will you determine hours run? The price will be like any commodity, depending on supply and demand. Immediately following a major power outage the price will skyrocket, and once power has been restored the price will drop again. Monitor asking prices over several days or weeks to get an idea of what used portable generators are selling for. Ask sellers what price they received after their sale has been completed. There are variables such as brand, power ratings, engine and alternator types which will affect the asking price. Don't expect to get a high end 5kW generator for the same price as a Chinese built 1kW generator.
