Does the emergency button in an elevator still work during blackout?
This sounds weird, but I'm writing a book, and I need to make it as real as possible. So, if people are stuck in an elevator during a blackout, does the emergency button still work on a separate power generator like hospitals? Or, just tough luck? Now, if a fire also breaks out during that period of time because of a candle, does that change anything? It's a weird question, I know, but all help would be great. Real life stories would be even better.

- no it doesn't work this happend to my cousin at a hotel in texas. the winds knocked down the utility poles and caused a blackout for 45 min untill they got the generators.
- It does not work because if there is no power the whole elevator is completely disabled and useless. If the power is still on when the fire starts the elevator should still be able to work as long as it isnt harming any part of the elevator. In an emergency you might be ably to climb out of the elevator through the shaft, if that is possible.
