1. any large store, Lowe,s Menard's, home depot Etc depends on what you want to power, it will be based on Wattage, a standard size is 6,000 watts if you plan on running large appliances you will need a bigger one, say around 1 or 2,000 watt range, or you can get a 13K for around $5,000 or more. features should , be low oil shut off, large fuel tank, easy to start,

3. Most hardware stores have a selection of small generators. There should be a selection of used generators available in your area as well. Check Craigslist, Kijiji, or your local newspaper classified section. Take a close look at the type of engine. Avoid those made in China due to difficulty getting replacement parts. Briggs and Stratton make good engines and have a very good parts and service network. Honda also makes a good product, but the price can be very high. Read my generator pages for other information.
4. there are many many things that you are supposed to check while making a decision in buying a portable generator. - make sure it is PORTABLE make sure it has enough wattage to run everything plus 20% more ( for future upgrades) make sure it is as low noise as possible, you don't want to keep awake in the night. large fuel tank, you don't want to fill the tank every hour.
