1. Why is a generator armature more difficult to rotate when it is connected to and supplying electric current to a circuit. 2. Some bicycles have electric generators that are made to turn when the bike wheel turns. These generators provide energy for the bike’s lamp. Will a cyclist coast farther if the lamp connected to the generator is turned off?

- 1. Because the generator is pulling energy from the mechanical motion and changing it into electrical energy. It can only do this when there is an electrical load connected. When I was in electrical engineering school, I found this very surprising - we had a hand crank generator that you could connect loads to. It really made me understand. 2. Yes - from long experience I can tell you the cyclist can feel the drag of the generator.
