Portable Generator For Sale

How would it be possible to redirect you power needs in case of an emergency.?

I understand all the wiring goes directly to the power box which in turn goes to the power lines. If you were to be self sufficient in case of an emergency, would it be possible to divert and directly use you own power source ie a generator; similar to hospitals. Sometimes when you use generators you have to bring either the appliance to the generator or vice versa. Instead of getting all the rooms and electrical wiring connected together to then automatically plug into a generator. So you the home and the people living in it can still go about there business without be affected to greatly. The question is, is this possible.

  1. you would have to have an automatic switching box installed which unfortunately cost more then the generator. you would be better off just installing a couple of designated outlets supplied by your generator. but be aware of the power load you hook into them when in service good luck :0)
  2. No That is not possible You will have drag all your stuff The oven and ac and light bulbs and tv and computer Drag them ALL over to your generator And plug them in to it
  3. It is possible, but you must be very sure that your generator cannot be connected to the outside line. There are double throw switches for the purpose. One side connected to utility, the other, to your emergency generator, the center to your 'critical loads'. For safety, your generator should be grounded to the house ground. This is not a D.I.Y. installation unless you really know what you're doing.
