What is the difference between a gas driven generator and a wind driven generator? I am looking to make a wind driven generator. My thoughts are that if I buy a gas driven generator it has all the converters and such so I can just plug in and go.I can adapt it to wind. I can buy a gas generator without a motor. Or does the gas driven one have to much torque compared to a wind generator? I hope this makes some sense.
Is a natural gas generator a good emergency power idea? I have been thinking of buying a nat gas generator for emergency use. But I wonder if the pumping stations that pump natural gas would go down during an electrical outage. If they do a natural gas generator wouldn't do me much good? Is this true? Also can you think of other advantages and disadvantages to a gas or diesel generator?
What kind of battery do I need to power an inverter and can it be charged by a gas generator? New to this system. I recently bought a gas powered generator for outdoor use—wanting to use it sparingly, I would like to purchase a battery and inverter that will provide necessary power for my low-watt tools and appliances—with the generator being used to charge the battery when it runs out, and power more watt-heavy equipment—like my power tools. I am looking for battery/inverter options and the wiring that would go with them to 1) charge the battery, and 2) connect the battery to the inverter. Thanks in advance!
Can I make a wind turbine using a gas generator? I have access to a small gas-powered generator that can run a few appliances. It doesn't run anymore, so I was wondering if I could put windmill blades on it. If it is possible to do it, could i plug it right into an outlet and feed power into our system? I know it can't run the whole house, but it could reduce our elec. bill right?
Can i power an electric car with a gas generator? I'm getting ready to start building an electric car with a portable gas powered generator used to charge the batteries for backup. I have found a 17kw/hr generator can i use that to rapidcharge my battery bank? If not, what do I need to be able to rapid-charge my battery bank??
Gas generator dies after put under load? The gas generator is maybe 2 years old and recently has had a hard time running. It starts easily (a pull or two) and seems to run fine until load is added to it, than the load (lights, etc.) flicker as it goes rraaar raaar raaaarr raaar raar raar rar until it eventually dies. Maybe 30 seconds or so until it will die under load. Any ideas? Also the oil isnt that old and is already very dark, was thinking could be busted piston rings, but not sure. though, i was thinking if it was piston rings there would be smoke.
How do you hook up a gas generator? I am thinking of buying a portable gas generator to provide electricity? when the electricticy goes out. I live in an area that recently experiences an ice storm and we were without power for about a week. I want to get a generator that will deliver enough power to keep my furnace, major appliances and a few lights, etc. working. My question is, how is this generator hooked up to the furnace and other items? Run into fuse box. junction box? Does it come with extension cord/s? How is it hooked up...installed? Thank You
Returning a portable gas generator after using it for a couple days? We just had a major storm in the midwest and many areas lost power for 3 to 5 days. Someone mentioned they bought a large generator, used it for 3 days and returned it for a refund. My question is what does the stores do with the used equiptment? They can't sell it as new. I am interested in seeing the prices they are offering for a basically new generator, reconditioned or used. Any one have an insite?
How does a gas generator make electricity? Okay, I know there is a generator /electro motor in there, but it's not a permanent magnet motor, then if there is no existing magnetic field, and there is no battery on a generator, how does it make the coils energized? The rotor and stator are both windings, or, is there a slight small magnet in the rotor to give that first bit of current to make more current as the generator gets to full speed?
are there any circumstances when a portable gas generator is safe to operate in a screened-in porch? I'm thinking most of the Carbon monoxide comes out the exhaust pipe. Why not add a longer pipe(12 ft) to extend the exhaust pipe so the exhaust can be directed outdoors away from the indoors. Also, high velocity fans can be used to blow the air away from the indoors. Two carbon monoxide detectors would be helpful. limiting the time of day and the number of hours of use might help. definitely don't want to sleep while the generator is running.
Where should I put a gas generator to use it? My power is out and a friend of mine is letting me borrow his generator. My fiance said we can put it out it in the garage and open the garage door a bit. People at work are saying to put it outside. What should I do?
I need to know how to check a portable gas generator electrically? The unit is only putting out about 3.5 volts. The breakers and connections are all good. I'm being told that the rotor is bad. How do you test this? But I was also told that there is a thermistor that may be bad. Where is this located? It's a Generac 5550 watt generator. Hmmm?
What size of gas generator do i need? To fully charge 8 - 12 volt utility batteries in a reasonable time, and approx. how long would it take. please give a few examples with different sized generators. THis generator will be used as a back-up with a wind mill, solar panels and a small hydro generator.
How to build hydrogen generator for gas stove? Hi All, It looks like hydrogen generator being widely discussed, especially during high oil price. I already got several information regarding hydrogen generator for car/truck, while I also interested to apply this technology for gas stove. Have you guys got any advise for me?
What causes a gas generator to stop putting out voltage? The engine runs fine and I cannot find any blown fuses. but it is not putting out any voltage The generator is only about a year old. Although it is an off brand name. I havent found any switches to turn the plugs on and off.
How to fix a generator with bad gas? I have a Husky generator. Brand new, used once. After I used it, I replaced the gas and it won't start again. I have drained the gas, replaced the spark plug and added fresh gas with no luck. Any suggestions?
How do I use my gas-powered generator for electricity for my backyard workshop? The building was originally wired for electricity. No simple way exists to run a power line from the house to the workshop, which we moved to its present location a year ago. What I want to do is attach my 5,000-watt generator to the wiring in the building (small: 16X20). Currently we run extension cords outside to the generator. Obviously the generator would remain outside, but with the building wired to it instead of extension cords through the doors and windows. Thanks for your help and advice on doing this.
How do I deal with Old gas in my generator? I have two generators that have old gas in them from a previous storm. The gas is more than 1 year old. No stabilizer was used. First how do I get the gas out and when I do what should I do with the gas? Is there any additives to use the gas in my car? Appreciate any suggestions.
Generator gas/electric start? I just purchased a Powerlift 3000 gas/electric start generator. I also bought a battery charger to charge the 12V battery. What I want to know is what do I set the charger at 12V/2 amp or 12V/6amp to charge the battery because I do not know how many amps the battery has. Also, how long do I have to charge the battery? What can I say, I am a woman and know nothing about generators or 12V batteries. the generator and battery are new. I ordered it on-line. If I set the charger at 12V/2amp and this is a trickle charge. Will the battery be charged enough at this setting?
Will a gas generator fry my TV? I have a 7500 Watt gas generator. Can I run my Sony LCD large screen TV on it without frying it because of the "dirty power" from the generator? I have a high end Monster Surge protector. Is that enough?
HAVE PRESSURE generator using 269 meter cubed per hour of natural gas how do i convert that to liters? i need to use a machine to create the gas to supply the genset and i am only given the 2000 liters per hour. so the genset uses 269 meter cube per hour at 100% power. how do i do the conversion to make sure i am supplying it with enough gas or if i need more gas generating machines. thanks update the gas generator is 2000 liters per hour at 60 psi and the genset is consuming 269 meter cube per hour at 2-34 kpa or 4.6 - 80 oz/inch square
Where can I find a generator that runs on natural gas? I've been told that you can buy kits to convert regular gasoline fueled generators (like what you'd find in Home Depot or Lowes) to run off of natural gas. I'd like to find one that already has this kit attached but if I can't, anyone know where to find these kits and what kind of Pro I should ask to attach it? I don't need a whole house generator, just something to run a furnace blower fan or a fridge... Thanks!
Powering a gas furnace with a gasoline generator.? I am considering purchasing a 1200 watt (max) 10A generator. They are reasonably priced right now. I would think that it should power my furnace in case of a power outage. My furnace is 6 years old. It is a mid-efficiency type with a 4 position blower fan. It is connected to an electronic programmable thermostat. It seems to me if I disconnect it from the house wiring and divert it to the generator, everything should work including the blower fan, gas valve and thermostat. I would think that 1000 watts continuous would be adequate. Do you agree? Is there anything else I should know?
Gas powered generator power into a power grid? Can you hook up a gas generator, whether it's 110 or 220 volts to a live circuit in a home and use that power until it generates enough to put back into the grid? Another way to aproach the question is does the transformer work in reverse or will the AC 220 from the power co. burn out the generator?
